Policy

  1. Ahliah School is committed to ensuring a secure and safe environment for all its community members. In line with this, this policy provides a framework for the prevention and management of risks and  safety occurrences
  2. All personnel shall report any hazards and actively participate in emergency drills and procedures

Purpose

  1. To create and maintain a secure environment
  2. To develop  the competencies of the school community to prevent and respond to safety concerns To create and maintain a secure environment
  3. To provide the school community a standardized guideline for risk identification, analysis, reduction and control

Procedure

  • Health and Safety committee
    1. The school appoints a safety Committee to be in charge of following on all safeguarding, risk assessment, and child protection related concerns.
    2. To provide the school community a standardized guideline for risk identification, analysis, reduction and control
    3. The members of the safety committee are the Heads of divisions, the counselor, and the school nurse.
    4. The committee members  shall review the risk assessment and propose safety workshops and training as needed
  • Risk Identification
    1. the safety committee shall identify and categorize all potential hazards in the school different areas and school in and out activities into:

                             a. Physical hazard

                             b. Health hazard

                             c. Technological hazard

                             d. Conflict related hazard

2.The safety committee shall Identify the hazardous situation, incident scenarios and specify ;  Sources of the hazards

                       a. The individuals that might be harmed

                       b. The precautions and Control measures in place

                       c. The additional needed control measures

  1. the safety committee shall proactively assess the risks by calculating the likelihood of an incident is to occur which will result to an injury or illness in order to allocate appropriate resources

                     a. Decide on the worst credible hazard consequence. The consequence is the degree of harm that could be caused to people exposed to the hazard, the potential severity of injuries

                      b. Determine likelihood that is defined as the probability or chance that consequence identified in step 2 will occur

                      c. Determine the rating value based on where the consequence and likelihood intersect

      1. The safety committee shall ensure that high risks are addressed first and prioritized
      2. The Heads of departments shall ensure that incidents are reported to the Head of the health and safety departmentThe Heads of departments shall ensure to assess and document  the risk of trips and activities
    1. The safety committee shall ensure that measures are in place to avoid or reduce the exposure to a hazard.
    2. The safety committee shall prepare an action plan for Medium, high and extreme priority risks
    3. To control the hazard the safety committee shall choose from  the following hazard control approaches ranging from the most effective till the least effective:

                        a. Elimination: eliminating the hazard

                        b. Substitution: replace the hazard source with less hazardous material or equipment

                        c. Engineering controls/ isolation: provide mechanical aids to isolate the hazard (outsourcing  …)

                       d. Administrative controls: provide job rotation, safe work procedures training, site safety inspections/audits.

                        e. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): provide respiratory protection, safety harnesses, safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, safety boots, gloves or any other as applicable

  • Near miss incidents
    1. The safety committee shall ensure that the near miss incidents are investigated and controlling measures are in place to avoid any occurrences
  • Emergency preparedness
    1. The safety committee shall ensure the emergency preparedness for specific scenarios and ensure that drills are implemented
    2. The Head of the Health and safety department shall ensure that:

                        a. All students are trained on emergency procedures

                        b. fire drills are documented and gaps are addressed

                        c. laboratory specific emergency procedures are shared with the students

Training

  • The Head of the Human Resources Department shall ensure that the safety committee members are trained on risk prevention
  • The Head of the Human resources department shall ensure that all employee are trained on safety incidents reporting
