Ahliah School proudly celebrates the achievement of alumna Aya Boukhari, Class of 2020, following the publication of her autobiographical graphic novel, Between Home and Nowhere, and her recognition with the Areen Award in Comic Book.
Through a powerful combination of illustration and personal storytelling, Aya shares her experience of leaving Lebanon during the 2024 war. Her graphic novel explores themes of displacement, fear, resilience, memory, and the complex meaning of home when experienced from a distance.
Between Home and Nowhere offers a deeply personal perspective on the emotional journey of leaving one’s country, using visual storytelling to capture experiences and emotions that can be difficult to express through words alone. Through her illustrations and narrative, Aya transforms her own experience into a story that invites readers to reflect on identity, belonging, and the enduring connection to home.
Her work has already reached wider audiences through its publication and presence at the Beirut Art Fair. The book is available through AUB Press and is expected to become available at Librairie Antoine soon.
At Ahliah School, we take great pride in celebrating the accomplishments of our alumni and the different paths they pursue beyond graduation. Aya’s achievement reflects the power of creativity and storytelling to share meaningful experiences and connect with audiences.
We congratulate Aya Boukhari on this remarkable milestone and look forward to seeing her continue to inspire others through her artistic and literary journey.
