On July 5 th , 2022, Ahliah School proudly celebrated the graduation of 51 students who will join top universities of their choices locally and worldwide.
Ahliah school was honored that this year’s commencement speaker was, H.E. Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, former minister of Education and Higher Education and former president of the University of Jordan.
Dr. Mohafzah Graduated from the University of Damascus majoring in Medicine and received a doctorate in medical sciences in bacteriology and immunology from the American University of Beirut, then he continued his specialization in bacteriology at Yale University in the United States in the year 1988.
In his speech, his excellency talked about Ahliah’s legacy and role throughout its history in empowering women and graduating pioneers in academia, arts, and social and political fields.
Also, he mentioned the improvement that the school did in the past years, in its curriculum, and specifically that the school got accredited years ago by the Council of International Schools and the New England Associations of Schools and Colleges.
The ceremony included honoring Board members for their long dedication through their membership in Ahliah’s board of trustees. Dr. Nadim Cortas, Chair of the Ahliah Board, and Mrs. Ayache, principal, awarded the honorees Dr. Huda Zurayk and Dr. Nadim Daouk, the school accolade.
Dr. Huda Zurayk graduated from Ahliah school to join the American University in Beirut, where she obtained a bachelor’s in Statistics in 1965, a Master’s from Harvard University in 1966, and her doctorate in Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in 1974. Dr. Zurayk was the first female dean at the American University of Beirut. Dr. Huda loved to give back to the school that had a great influence on her career and her life, through her participation in the Board of Trustees since 1998. She had a great contribution in the school’s transformation and development.
Dr. Nadim Daouk, graduated from the American University of Beirut, with a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, and earned his master’s and a doctorate in computer engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles in 1973 and 1979. Dr. Daouk’s relationship with Ahliah, goes back to the days of his father, Dr. Fawzi Al-Daouk, who headed the school’s board of trustees from 1989 until 1994. Dr. Nadim has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1994, and since 2009 he has been the treasurer of the Board of Trustees and the head of the Finance Committee. His contributions in supporting the school are many, especially
in setting financial plans for the reconstruction and development of the school to be in conformity with international standards as well as to ensure the continuity of the school and to overcome financial challenges as a result of the deterioration of the value of the Lebanese pound during the economic crisis we are experiencing in Lebanon.
