Biography

 Kulthum Salam Husseini joined the American University of Beirut (AUB) after she graduated from Ahliah School and received her MA in Arabic literature in 1957. From the early 1980s, Ms. Husseini engages herself in the community service and philanthropy. She has been an active member on the Board of Dar Al Aytam Al Islamiyah, later called The Social Welfare Institution which provides specialized services to abandoned children in addition to those mentally retarded. The institution’s diversified specialized services cover 30 locations in Lebanon. Since 1986 she was among the women who started the committee of (Ashghalouna), the friends of the Social Welfare Institution which teaches widows sewing, embroidery, handicraft, and cooking and provides venue for their sale. At present and for the last 30 years, Ms. Husseini has been a member in the AUB President’s Club  which generates funds to enable the president of AUB to significantly enhance the execution of projects that he thinks are important to the University.  In addition she was an active member on the AUB scholarship Fund Raising Committee in the 1980s and early 1990s.
