Dr. Rima Karami Akkary is an experienced educator, researcher, and leader in educational administration, policy, and school reform. She has been a member of Ahliah School’s Board of Trustees since 2019 and has served as Chair of the Board’s Academic Committee since 2022, contributing to the school’s mission of providing high-quality education and fostering academic excellence.
Dr. Rima Karami Akkary is an Associate Professor at the American University of Beirut (AUB), specializing in educational leadership and school improvement. She also serves as the Program Advisor for the Educational Management and Leadership Program at AUB. Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree, a teaching diploma, and a Master’s degree in Science Education from AUB, followed by a Doctorate in Education from Portland State University with a focus on K-12 educational administration, school leadership, and policy reform.
In 2007, Dr. Karami launched the TAMAM Project at AUB, a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting school-based reform and developing leadership skills for sustainable schools. The project has since expanded to 67 schools across 8 Arab countries and was awarded the 2021-2022 UNESCO-HAMDAN Prize for Teacher Development.
Beyond her academic and research contributions, Dr. Karami has worked extensively with public and private schools in Lebanon and the Arab region, advising on leadership development, professional training, and educational improvement. She also holds key positions in several educational organizations, including Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Shamaa (Arab Educational Information Network) and member of the Executive Committee of LAES (Lebanese Association of Educational Sciences).
As a valued member of Ahliah School’s leadership, Dr. Karami has played a crucial role in shaping its academic strategies and upholding its commitment to excellence. Her expertise and dedication to education continue to have a significant impact on both Ahliah School and the broader educational landscape in Lebanon and beyond.
On February 8, 2025, Dr. Rima Karami Akkary was appointed as the Lebanese Minister of Education.
