Dr. Huda Zurayk is presently Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon. She is associated with the FHS Center for Research on Population and Health. She was Dean of FHS from 1998 to 2008.
Dr. Zurayk earned a BA in Statistics from AUB in 1965, and an MA in Statistics from Harvard University in 1966. She completed her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1974.
Dr. Zurayk joined FHS at AUB in 1974 as Assistant Professor and became Professor in 1985. In 1987 she joined the Population Council Regional Office for West Asia and North Africa in Cairo for over 10 years, as Senior Representative first and then as Senior Research Associate. While in Egypt, she participated with a multidisciplinary group of researchers to produce the landmark Giza Study on women, reproduction and health in rural Egypt. Dr. Zurayk has contributed in many areas of public health research and has numerous publications. She has participated in a number of advisory boards and professional organizations locally, regionally and internationally.
