K–12 Education in Lebanon: Challenges and Opportunities
Over two days, Ahliah School organized and hosted the Education Forum in collaboration with the Department of Education at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB), bringing together the education community in Lebanon for in-depth dialogue and shared reflection — with the participation of the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The forum welcomed over 100 participants representing public and private schools, alongside educators, principals, teachers, policymakers, researchers, educational consultants, and experts from diverse sectors.
The opening ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Ms. Rida Ayache, Principal of Ahliah School, and Dr. Tamer Amin, Acting Chair of the Department of Education at AUB, followed by keynote addresses by H.E. Dr. Rima Karami, Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Mr. Omar Abdulaziz Hussein Al Naama, Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of the State of Qatar, representing H.E. Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater.
On Day Two, the forum continued with a keynote address by H.E. Dr. Kamal Shehadeh, Minister of Displaced and Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
Across both days, participants engaged in panel discussions and interactive sessions addressing key themes including technology in education, curriculum development, school-focused governance, participatory leadership, sustainability, and partnership — with a high level of engagement and exchange throughout.
A defining moment of the forum was the national honor awarded to Dr. Nadim Cortas, Chairperson of Ahliah School’s Board of Trustees and Emeritus Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at AUB, who received the National Order of Merit from H.E. Dr. Rima Karami, in recognition of his lifelong service to education, institution-building, and public service.
Two days that transformed dialogue into collective purpose and reaffirmed the power of partnership in shaping the future of education in Lebanon.

التعليم المدرسي في لبنان: التحدّيات والفرص
على مدى يومين، نظّمت المدرسة الأهليّة في بيروت واستضافت الملتقى التربوي بالتعاون مع دائرة التربية في كلية الآداب والعلوم في الجامع الأميركيّة في بيروت (AUB)، جامعًا الأسرة التربويّة في لبنان لحوار معمّق وتفكير مشترك — بحضور وزارة التربية والتعليم العالي اللبنانيّة.
استقبل الملتقى أكثر من 100 مشارك يمثّلون مدارس رسميّة وخاصّة، إلى جانب تربويين، مديري مدارس، معلمين، صنّاع سياسات، باحثين، مستشارين تربويين، وخبراء من قطاعات متعدّدة.
استُهلّ حفل الافتتاح بكلمات ترحيبيّة لكل من الأستاذة رضا عياش، مديرة المدرسة الأهليّة، والدكتور تامر أمين، رئيس دائرة التربية بالإنابة في الجامعة الأميركيّة في بيروت، تلتها كلمات رئيسيّة لكل من معالي وزيرة التربية والتعليم العالي اللبنانيّة الدكتورة ريما كرامي، والسيّد عمر عبد العزيز حسين النعمة، وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون التعليم الخاص في وزارة التربية والتعليم العالي في دولة قطر، ممثلًا معالي السيدة لولوة بنت راشد بن محمد الخاطر.
وفي اليوم الثاني، تواصلت أعمال الملتقى مع كلمة رئيسيّة لـ معالي الدكتور كمال شحادة، وزير المهجّرين ووزير الدولة لشؤون التكنولوجيا والذكاء الاصطناعي.
وتوزّعت أعمال اليومين بين جلسات حواريّة وورش تفاعليّة تناولت دور التكنولوجيا في التعليم، وتطوير المناهج، والحوكمة المدرسية، والقيادة التشاركية، والاستدامة، والشراكة، وسط تفاعل لافت ومشاركة فعّالة من الحضور.
وشكّل تكريم الدكتور نديم قرطاس ومنحه وسام الاستحقاق الوطني من قبل معالي الوزيرة ريما كرامي محطة وطنيّة بارزة، تقديرًا لمسيرته الطويلة في خدمة التربية وبناء المؤسّسات والعمل العام.
يومان أكّدا أن مستقبل التعليم في لبنان يُبنى بالحوار، وبالشراكة، وبالقيادة المشتركة.
