Farewell to Maitre Toufic Mouawad

Maitre Toufic smiling at Ahliah

Colleagues on the Ahliah BOT, Principal Rida Ayache and all members of the Ahliah community,

It is with a sense of deep grief to announce that Maitre Toufic Mouawad bid us and the world farewell on his journey to Eternal Peace. Maitre Toufic throughout, enjoyed to plant trees whose fruits ripen for the next generation. He joined the Ahliah BOT in 2014 and added significant value in the process of getting the permits at the conclusion of the Ahliah Renovation and New Construction (ARNC) project, planning for the payment of the long term reconstruction loan and other financial matters. He helped Ahliah out of many bureaucratic problems with the authorities and others in addition to being generous in supporting student financial aid. During my last visit with him, 3 weeks ago, he insisted that he wants to help Ahliah expand by buying the adjacent property. His heart and passion was with everything he did.

Maitre Toufic Mouawad heads multiple executive boards, and participates in several companies which he co-founded in Lebanon and abroad in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and money transfer. When the banking system collapsed in Lebanon, through innovative entrepreneurship, he established O.M.T (Online Money Transfer) S.A.L which offers numerous financial services such as money transfer and payments. O.M.T is evolving into futuristic digital banking services.

Maitre Toufic Mouawad earned a degree in Law from Saint Joseph University in 1967. He interned in the office of Minister Michael Edde and worked as a legal advisor in Paris from 1980 till 1985.

He has participated in Geneva and Lausanne Conference for conflict resolution amongst the delegation headed by President Sleiman Frangieh and had been appointed as a member of the post Lausanne Constitutional Reform Committee (لجنة الاصلاح الدستوري) in 1984.

He participated in the establishment of the Lebanese Permanent Civil Peace Association (الجمعية اللبنانية للسلم الأهلي الدائم) and had been appointed by the Vaticanas a member of the political committee that participated in the SYNOD creation for Lebanon.

He founded the “White Land Foundation” and “Mutadaminoun Foundation” which provides aid in educational, social, athletic, and municipal activities. He has a number of publications, articles, and national political interviews

His legacy will remain eternally through the institutions he established and/or served, through his family and through all those who loved him. May He Rest in Peace.

We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Therese Joseph Saade, his Daughter Joya Mouawad Machnouk, all his family, and those that love him.
