Admission Policy

Policy

  • Ahliah School is an equal opportunity inclusive school that believes in the right of education for all children.
  • Ahliah School is committed to provide an inclusive environment for all children that meets their intellectual, social and emotional development needs.
  • The admission of any candidate depends on Ahliah’s placement assessment and the academic and disciplinary performance of the applicant in the previous school.
  • Students who have siblings enrolled at Ahliah or whose parents are Ahliah alumni shall be given preference for admission.

Purpose

  • To ensure that the applications are not subject to discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, age, national or ethnic identity, gender or gender identity,  parents marital status, disability, alienage or citizenship status, political affiliation, or any legally protected characteristic, except as required by Lebanese law.
  • To provide the school community with a framework for the process of admission that is aligned with the school programs and mission.

Procedure

  • Grade Level Placement
    1. Students admitted to KGI should have completed a minimum of 2 years and 9 months by the beginning of the academic year as per the Lebanese law for Early Childhood education
    2. Students in grades 1-12 shall be within two years range of the average age of the grade. The table below shows the average age of each class.

  • Special Education Needs
    1.  The school offers an academic support program that caters to students’ learning differences.
    2. The program  requires an additional fee.
    3.  The Academic Support Division shall accept students that the program can cater to and provide them with the appropriate aid, support, resources and facilities to reach their best potentials.
    4.  Parents/Guardians shall provide the school with psychological or educational assessment reports before admission to the school.
    5. The Admissions Committee may request additional information including but not limited to: medical records, records of previous interventions, and/or contact with previous schools. Each application for academic, language, behavioral, and social/emotional needs.
    6. There may be students whose academic and/or social needs are beyond what the school offers. In such cases, students shall not be admitted to the school, or are admitted under clearly defined conditions as part of a “conditional acceptance”. This includes the financial responsibility for a Shadow Teaching Assistant if required. Support provisions are subject to annual review. The final decision regarding placement rests with the Heads of Divisions and ultimately the school principal.
  • Arabic Language Requirement

    1. All students from K-12 are required to learn Arabic.
    2. Classes are differentiated for native and non-native speakers and between the different programs (Lebanese Baccalaureate and the College/Freshman Year Preparatory Programs)
  • English Language Support

    1.  English is the language of instruction of most subject areas. Ahliah aims for all students to be able to read and write at an adequate  level for their age.
    2. Ahliah shall provide an appropriate planned instruction program for identified students with Limited English Proficiency relevant to their grade level, and whose difficulties may deny such individuals the opportunity to learn successfully in classrooms where the language of instruction is English or to participate fully in school programs and activities.
    3.  If a student is identified as requiring English Language support as after-school remedial course or pull-out support sessions, the service is provided for an additional fee.
  • Application

Parents/guardians shall submit to the Admissions Office:

  • The completed application form
  • One recent passport picture
  • A photocopy of the Identification Card.
  • An authenticated certificate from the previous school of succeeding the previous grade level (applies to applicants to grades 2-12)
  • A transcript of grades for the last 2 years 
  • A non-refundable application fee

Placement Assessment

1. Preschool (KGI-KGIII)

         a. Students shall be invited for an observational/practical assessment to determine school readiness.

         b. The sessions shall generally be conducted, one-on-one and last approximately 30 minutes.

         c . Students in the early childhood program must be toilet trained.

2. Grade 1 – 6

         a. Assessments shall be conducted generally in a small group or one-on-one basis as required.

         b. Assessments shall encompass literacy and numeracy skills .

3. Grade 7-10

         a. Assessments shall be conducted generally in a small group or one-to-one basis as required.

         b. Placement tests shall be in Math, English and Arabic proficiency

4. Grade 11-12

          a. Applicants sit for placement test in Math, English and Arabic proficiency in addition to physics and chemistry for scientific sections.

5. Interview Student/ Parents/Guardians

          a. A member of the admission committee shall interview the student with his parent/guardian.

6. Results

The admission/non-admission decision for the candidate will be issued in writing 10 days after the exam date. Parents will receive:

          a. A Letter informing them of the decision

          b. A copy of the schedule of the tuition fees and other payments for the academic year

          c. Other relevant documents

Registration

Registration is complete after providing the following:

  1. a. An endorsed paper specifying the legal guardian of the child in case of divorce
  2. b. An official waiver for non-Lebanese candidates exempted from the Lebanese Baccalaureate
  3. c. Payment of the Registration fee within 10 days of the receipt of the letter of acceptance
  4. d. Payment of a one-time Development fee
  5. e. An interview with the Head of Division, to which the student is admitted, to orient students and parents of school procedures and sign the school’s Code of Conduct
  6. f. A photocopy of the medical/vaccination report
